Software that has to work.
I'm an independent software architect and developer in Kuopio, Finland. 18 years in software, 11 of them as a consultant — eight at Vincit, one of Finland's leading software agencies. A couple of those years were in their California office.
Ten years in medical devices, and most recently EV charging and energy.
I usually join a project at the start, help work out what to build and how to structure it, then stay and build it. I also join teams that are already running when they need another senior developer.
What I do
Working out what to build with your product and design people, then building it. Event-driven backends, mobile apps, dashboards, and the integrations between them.
Python and FastAPI, TypeScript and React, Flutter, Swift, C++, Azure, Terraform, CI/CD. I join an existing team and start contributing in the first week.
Ten years of medical device work, so I know what regulation means for a development process: how to keep requirements traceable from specification through to test evidence, what an auditor will ask for, and how to design and verify software where failure is a safety problem.
Technical leadership, mentoring, and code review. That includes preparing your developers to take over what we built, so they can keep it running after I leave.
Some of what I've built
Founding engineer on a greenfield charging network for a large Finnish energy company. Cloud backend, consumer app, operator dashboard and payments. A real-time distributed system that has to stay available.
Vital signs monitoring software shipping in GE CARESCAPE bedside and transport monitors used worldwide. A decade in medical software, so I know IEC 62304 and ISO 14971 well.
A privacy-focused macOS utility I ran on my own: engineering, product, pricing and support. Thousands of monthly users, 4.8 out of 5, acquired in 2023.
How this usually works
A few weeks at the start of a new project. We work out what to build and how, and you get a plan detailed enough for your own team to build from.
I join your team for a longer stretch, usually two to four days a week for three to six months, and build alongside the people you already have.
I take responsibility for a system through to production, then hand it over with documentation and a team that knows how to run it.

Where I've been

A rough idea is enough to start with. You don't need a spec or a budget worked out before writing. Tell me what you're building and what's in the way, and I'll tell you what I think, whether or not it ends with you hiring me.
